ExperToolBox's color palette extractor analyses any image and returns its most dominant colors as HEX, RGB and HSL codes. Upload a photo, artwork, brand image or screenshot, and the tool samples thousands of pixels to identify the colors that appear most frequently.
Click any color swatch to copy its HEX code to your clipboard. Use the "Copy all HEX" button to get all colors at once for pasting into your CSS or design tool. A color strip at the top shows all colors proportionally.
Extracting a palette from an image is a powerful design technique. Brand designers extract palettes from photography to create cohesive visual identities. Web designers use palettes from hero images to choose matching button and text colors. Interior designers extract palettes from fabric or material photos. Artists use palette extraction from reference photos to inform their color choices.
The image is scaled down to a small canvas (reducing processing time) and each pixel's color is sampled. Similar colors are grouped into "buckets" โ this process is called color quantisation. The most populated buckets represent the dominant colors. This tool uses a simplified median-cut approach that works well for most images.
